Even the threat of rain couldn’t stop unity from taking place in Newark NJ. It was forecast, but with the exception of a passing sprinkle the day was dry, seasonable, and comfortable. The schedule started several hours later due to some technical difficulties. Guinness World Book of Records would not show up because of unexpected reasons. They were scheduled to record the world largest praise dance. About 30 of the 400 churches in Newark were represented - a decent marketing response - about 7%. Radio celebrities Liz Black and Lady Dee, from North and South Jersey respectively, helped to host the event from the main stage to the youth stage. In between were vendors of all sorts. The crowds on Avon Avenue was mixed with people young and old. Internet based kid’s ministry. Director Marvin Cratch and Event Coordinator Adrianne Cratch (Newlyweds) were pleased with the 3rd city event. Marvin reflected that despite obstacles the day was a success.
The climax of the day was the show of solidarity when pastors, ministers, and heads of Christian organizations gather at the main stage and at the foot of a cross - a wooden replica of Calvary’s. Each were given nails and shared hammers. In turn, the ministerial crowd hammered their nails into the wooden memorial representing their differences nailed to the cross. The event continued with more music and worship. There was a prophetic word that awakening was coming to Newark and NJ. God would honor the commitment of Unity but would continue to move in end time move of gathering his church together. Marvin reemphasized the goal and vision - The Unity Day Festival was created to unite the community, church and city through corporate prayer, music, activities, vendors who provide delicious food from varied nationalities, merchandise of all types and valuable information from local and national brand corporations. The goal is to entertain, educate and enhance the quality of life within the community. We believe that when everyone works together within the community we can address problems and deliver outcomes that are not easily or effectively achieved by working alone. Unity is central to the way we work, deliver services and produce innovations. We also believe that collaborative relationships work best for the community and with the combination of effort and expertise it will produce benefits greater than those achieved by working alone. Preparation for the 2015 fourth Newark Unity Day have already began. To connect with Marvin or Adrianne contact at: Marvin Cratch - Executive Director (609) 216-6976 |
